Eden Lee Burns A.K.A. Gasp Beats is a young beatmaker originally from Christchurch and now living in Dunedin. We were fortunate to have the opportunity to catch up this talented young man, at the tender age of 15 he has an exciting future ahead of him.
Can you describe the Gasp beats sound? I honestly don't think i can describe my sound. I usually try make beats to how I feel at the time.
How did you get into producing music? I was playing drums in a band up till i was about 11 years old but my band broke up. That year i downloaded FL studio and started playing around on it and got hooked.
What has been a highlight of your musical career to date? Probably working with heaps of awesome artist's that I really look up to in the NZ music scene and hearing my own tunes on the radio.
You're a pretty young guy, you don’t hear of many 15 year olds producing their own music, what do your friends think about your accomplishments so far? Most of my friends are not in to music but they are all pretty stoked about it.
Do you have someone or a group of people who have have supported your creativity to date? I don't really have a team that helps me out but a lot of local artists and my family have helped me heaps.
What/who currently inspires you? The main producers that inspire me at the moment would be Lunice, Flying lotus, Tokimonsta and all the pioneers of beat making like J dilla, Pete rock 9th wonder etc
What live acts have you seen recently that have blown you away? The last act I saw was a Producer from NZ called K+LAB and he was dope!
If you could invite 3 people to dinner who would they be? Lunice, Flying lotus and 9th Wonder.
You seem to like to mix things up with your beats, some tracks are mellow and atmospheric while others lean towards trap. What sort of tracks do you find more satisfying to produce? I really make tunes to how I feel at the time, But at the moment I really enjoy making Trap.
Have you had the opportunity to play your music live yet? Currently I have not played live yet but I will be playing a few Live shows in Wellington in August.
What does the future hold for Gasp beats? A new EP that should be on iTunes very soon and hopefully many gigs.
